While the true origins of giving apples to teachers isn’t entirely known, throughout ancient history; from Greek mythology to religious texts, apples have been a symbol of knowledge and education. Some examples of more recent times in history where apples were given to teachers include as a payment for education, to feed frontier teachers in early America, where they would be housed with the families of children they taught, and by children of farmers to help teachers during the great depression. All of these have had some influence to the tradition of giving a teacher an apple at the start of the year as a symbol of appreciation and gratitude.

World teacher’s day, also called international teacher’s day, is held annually on October 5th to commemorate the signing of the 1966 UNESCO recommendations regarding the status of teachers. these recommendations were made to protect working conditions and ensure an environment exists where the highest quality of education can be provided to children from around the world. Help us celebrate this year’s world teacher’s day by making this cute apple paper craft card, and show your appreciation for your favourite teachers!
